Some background: |
This is probable the oldest distillery in Scotland, (though others make the same claim). It was founded before 1775 on the banks of the River Turret near Crieff, right in the centre of the country. The site was originally chosen by illicit distillers not only for seclusion of the beautifully wooded glen, but also for the supreme quality of the Turret water. Closed for 30 years, GlenTurret was brought back to life by James Fairlie in 1959. | |
| Tasting Note: | (Malt Advocate) 'A fruit basket with caramel candy. Bright gold colour. A whisky with a lovely complex fruit profile which is paired nicely with malty notes of caramel, toffee and honey. The fruit character is quite lively on the palate, with the sweeter notes more prominent on the finish. A very enjoyable dram of a whisky that's very difficult to come by in the U.S.' | |
