Some background:

Lagavulin, "The mill in the hollow" lies on the shore of an attractive bay on the South side of the island, overlooked by the ruins of Dunyvaig Castle, home of the Lords of the Isles in the 12th Century. It's founder was "Restless" Peter Mackie, of White Horse fame, who was once described as one third: genius, megalomaniac and eccentric. the same thing could be said about this intellectually stimulating, and powerful, malt. Not to be wasted on novices.
Tasting Note: A bright gold colour invites you to explore further. Your nose is rewarded by a sweet and nutty aroma backed up with rich sumptuous peatiness. Its texture coats the mouth allowing the flavours to explode. huge, peaty and smoky with a touch of vanilla ending with a massively long dry and salty finish. Simply superb.
