Distilled: 1979
Age: 18
Cask type: Refill Sherry

Some background:

Built in 1812, 20 miles east of Inverness, the "Royal" was added in 1835 by permission of King William IV to honour his favorite distillery. The water used comes from the Cawdor burn, a name made infamous by Shakespeare in Macbeth, as the Thane of Cawdor's castle is close by. Perhaps the illegal stills bubbling in the surrounding hills provide the inspiration for the Three Witches?Whatever, this is a magical malt and a rare one.
Tasting Note: Pale golden in colour, this example of Royal Brackla excudes charm and class. A light sweet and fruity flavour with a hint of smoke giving it backbone. A smooth clean finish with gentle peat and smoke in perfect harmony.
