Overlooking the sleepy fishing harbour on the Isle of Mull, Tobermory Distillery produces an unpeated and a heavily peated spirit with the latter being bottled under the distillery’s original name, Ledaig (pronounced le-chick). This rich and oily single malt has spent its final years in a specially selected wine barrique from the celebrated Jurançon region, in the foothills of the Pyrenees. This is a celebration of cask and spirit, a wonderful balance between a cask previously holding a lusciously sweet and fruity French wine, and the intense character of this fierce West Coast single malt – a courageous maturation. This is an inspired Scotch whisky.
